How big is a trillion

There are two, very different, meanings to the word "trillion".
One definition is that a trillion means "a million, million, million" - the other is that it means just "a million million!"

In Britain:

A million used to be a million, which is  6 noughts, or 1,000,000
A billion used to be a million million.  which is 12 noughts, or 1,000,000,000,000
A trillion used to be a million, million, million which is 18 noughts, or 1,000,000,000,000,000,000

However, In America:

A million is a million which is  6 noughts, or 1,000,000
A billion is a thousand million which is  9 noughts or 1,000,000,000
A trillion is a million, million which is 12 noughts, or 1,000,000,000,000

So, watch out when using a trillion. Is it a million, million, million or is it just a million million?
